Forward Slope Inc., currently has an opening for a Sr. Communications Engineer to join our team. The position is located in San Diego, California.

Job Description:
Forward Slope is looking to add a Sr. Communications Engineer to join our growing System Design and Integration team. This engineer will focus on coastal and border surveillance projects, with a focus on participating in the survey/design process and then to oversee/supervise the installation of the telecommunication network. Experience with the design, development, and integration of surveillance systems (e.g. radar, AIS, radio) is a plus. Job responsibilities include a mix of San Diego-based design, integration and systems engineering work, and then intermittent travel to international locations (e.g. Africa) to perform site surveys and system installations. The engineer will also produce technical drawings (e.g. network architecture, equipment interconnect diagrams, ICDs), build and set up equipment, conduct experiments, collect data and calculate results, and develop test reports based on findings.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science or Engineering field such as computer engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering
  •  Minimum of ten (10) years of similar work experience
  • Must be willing to travel out of the country for several weeks to austere locations such as Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia
  • Experience with and detailed knowledge of RF communications and wireless communication networks and equipment
  • Experience planning and performing systems engineering analysis related to telecommunications (e.g. microwave) networks, including familiarity with network planning SW tools

Desired/Skills Qualifications:

  • Fifteen (15) years of similar work experience
  • Experience designing telecommunications networks for scalability and reduction of routing overhead and use protocols that provide bandwidth efficiency, load balancing, and routing hardware minimization
  • Experience with information assurance practices such as network protection, boundary defense, host-based protection (e.g., application security and anti-virus/anti-spyware), and security information management
  • Experience with reliability analysis
  • Experience with surveillance systems (e.g. radar, AIS, camera) and common operational picture (COP) software
  • Willingness and ability to climb towers and lift equipment up to 100 pounds
  • Technical writing skills, effective communication skills, problem-solving and analytical skills, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • IT development and integration (HW, SW and interface)
  • Familiarity with multi-meter and oscilloscope
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite of software. Expert use of Visio, Project, Excel, and PowerPoint will be considered a plus
  • Ability to read and construct high and low level drawings (interconnect, architecture and topology)
  • Knowledge of VHF and HF radios
  • Knowledge of AIS equipment (transponders and receivers)
  • Knowledge of marine (X-band, S-band) and ground surveillance radars
  • Knowledge of cameras (FLIR and COHU)
  • Knowledge of power system design

Other Requirements:

  • Must have a current and active Secret clearance or be able to obtain and maintain a clearance at the secret level or higher
